Canada is recognized worldwide for its beauty and abundance in natural resources, but it is increasingly recognized for their intellectual ability. Canada has invested billions of dollars over the last decade to create a strong infrastructure for research and development (R & D), which ranks second. Canada ranks second behind the U.S. in the G-7 and is the fourth in a survey among 134 countries in the quality of scientific research conducted in government and university laboratories. The Canadian Foundation for Innovation funded technology clusters across the country in areas ranging from pharmaceuticals from fuel cells, computer and communications technologies (ICTs).
